Mountain Joy Cottage #3, Owl Lodge, is a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath (2 with jacuzzi tubs) lodge that can sleep 13.

Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with it’s mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.

Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two and four bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.

Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, Cherokee Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.

Whatever the season, Mountain Joy Cottages and the Great Smokies have something very special to offer. From the wildflowers of spring, to the blaze of colors in the fall or the serenity of winter, come visit and make lasting memories at Mountain Joy Cottages.

  This house was central to ski resort, tubing and puzzle room. For family of 10 it was very comfortable. The only complaint I had was that 3 of the 5 bathrooms had no toilet paper when we arrived. We had to go buy it, which for the price charged I feel the owner should supply toilet paper and a roll of paper towels. The space was great and the large kitchen table was great for games. The room layout was perfect for the family. Would rent again.

  Staying at Mountain Joy Owl is perfect for a family getaway. Our extended family rents two houses at Mountain Joy. The family enjoys the pool, watching elk meander through at times, dropping a line in the pond, taking walks, or sitting in the porch watching a little game of badminton in the front yard. We grill and cook meals but also enjoy local restaurants like Joey’s and Butts on the Creek. We also enjoy the local festivals in Maggie Valley or Waynesville

  arrival at the cabin, not so good. The cabin was not clean, linen was dirty, cobb webbs on all the ceilings and walls. The cabin had very bad odor of CURRY!there were seven or eight bags of garbage out side by the A/C condensing units. Two of the rooms Bed Comforters had very bad damp spots on Them, looked like Sex Spots, we had too clean and mop the floors and clean bathrooms and kitchen,spray cabin several times for odor. one of the A/C heat pumps keept freezing up and making noise. You should check after cleaning crew.

  This house is perfect for safe distancing during a pandemic. Large rooms, very comfortable furniture, an enormous kitchen table for games and puzzles as well as eating, well-stocked kitchen with plenty of dishes, pots, pans and utensils. However, it needs some deep cleaning and a few repairs. Locks don’t work on all the doors, windows over kitchen sink were filthy, most dishes needed a good washing, cabinet below sink lacked flooring probably due to past water damage, heavy cobwebs in some bedroom corners and around lamps, dirty baseboards, missing or burned out light bulbs in lamps. On the other hand, management was very helpful and courteous. We reported a leak from the refrigerator the day we checked out, and a repairman was there before we left. I would definitely stay here again, in the hopes that these issues will be addressed.

  The cabin had rustic elements with modern conveniences and was very spacious for our party of 10. The location and amenities were great! The kids really enjoyed the pool and fire pit on the grounds. There was a pond for fishing, and we saw ducks, rabbits and elk on the property. Our only issue was with people coming to our cabin to check in or inquire as to availability. The first time was somewhat amusing but the second time a woman actually entered our cabin and startled us! I guess our cabin housed the rental office at one point.

  We had 7 adults and 5 teenagers and there was plenty of room for all of us. One of the biggest things we were hoping to see in that location was the elk, and they did not disappoint. Our daughters and their girl cousins loved the upstairs room as their own girl getaway. Even with things closed down due to the virus, we had a very memorable time. Thanks for having us.

  We enjoyed this vacation rental. There was plenty of space for all of us. The kitchen was pretty well stocked. There is no crockpot or baking pans. The beds were all pretty comfortable. We were able to have all the older kids sleep upstairs. We did have to pull a mattress from one of the sleeper sofas to put on the floor though because there are not bunk beds up there anymore. There are just 2 twin sized beds.
  
  It was overall pretty clean, I put on my review to Carolina Vacations that there were a TON of dust bunnies that came from under furniture.
  
  Overall it was a good stay, close to stuff, we would stay again.

  The house was relatively comfortable and fit our needs. One of the pictures on the website did not match the room in person--we were counting on three beds in one room, but there were only two. Also there were only 2 rolls of toilet paper in the entire house (11 people, 5 bathrooms) so that was inconvenient. We would have brought more if we had known. Otherwise, the rental process was fairly smooth and the house was pretty comfortable.
