Mountain Joy Cottage #10, Big Bear, is decorated in a bear theme. This romance cottage is equipped with a jacuzzi tub.

Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with it’s mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.

Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two and four bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.

Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, Asheville and The Biltmore Estate, Cherokee and the Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.

  The cabin isn’t a bad place but you could use a better cleaning crew. There were cobwebs in places such as the curtain rods and just kind of dusty in general. There were a pair of dusty jeans that have been under the bed for a good while. Feet also turned black after walking on the floor. TV remotes also didn’t work so I’m assuming they had dead batteries.

  The process of renting was great. Phone was answered and everyone was very friendly and helpful. The cabin was fine but for a few issues. The loveseat was horrible. Can't say this strongly enough. TV was tiny and only 1 in the cabin. You have to wash and put dishes before leaving but there is no dish soap to wash with. Do not use anything without washing. One show door is off the track and cannot be moved. Dust hangs off the wall behind the bed in clumps.

  The property was very easy to find and in a nice location. The day we arrived they were Elk in the field right beside the cabin ducks in the pond it was very nice. Everything in the description of the property and the pictures were correct. The only negative we had was the Wi-Fi was very weak but could have been related to the weather it was very overcast and misty rain the whole time we were there.

  The pictures are accurate as to how the cabin looks. It was very warm and cozy. Although this cabin is next to a road, it was quiet. I enjoyed sitting on the deck in the mornings while having my coffee watching the ducks on the pond. One evening, a cow elk came by. The jacuzzi was a relaxing treat after motorcycle riding all day. The location is ideal being close to US Route 19. My only complaint was that there was no hair dryer and the bed pillows were flat. Will definitely stay there again!!

  Over all it was good. The only complaint was in cabin #10 all the mini blinds were broken and anyone walking by could see inside...including the jacuzzi. We had to try to cover up the broken spaces with paper napkins.

  Enjoyed having everything we needed in one place for a nice weekend away. The cabin was comfortable and well stocked. The jacuzzi tub is absolutely wonderful! We did have to find our own firewood, but that wasn't a problem. We weren't able to access the wifi, but that also wasn't a big issue for us. Keep in mind you are by a road, so will occasionally hear a car, but it's very quiet at night. We felt we had plenty of privacy and enjoyed our stay at Big Bear cabin!

  Very clean and perfect for a couple. The fireplace was perfect each evening and they even provide nice dry firewood stacked on the hearth. The location on the pond was great as our new best friends (the ducks) greeted us each time we came back to the cabin. Also, seeing the elk right next to the cabin was very cool as well.   The cabin is beautifully decorated and supplied with most needs for a short stay. The location is also a beautiful area but not much to do in the winter time. It is a great place to get away from all the every day life activities and yet not far from things to do. Even saw elk around the cabins a couple times during our week long stay. We did an online booking and had no contact with the rental or property management. Everything was very clear and simple.

  Cottage is great! Location is great!(there is not noice from the little path, as some previous reviewer said, not at all!).
  It is clean. For our surprise we hound there toilet paper and kitchen paper. Towels are clean and enough. Kitchen supplies are enough for two people, need more silverware. All appliances work.
  Very comfortable bed!!! There is an iron board, please bring an iron if you need. No hair drier there. Jacuzzi is very good, rinse it well before use.
  Air condition works perfect, fireplace too! Internet is a little slow but works!
  We asked for some broken lights to be changed, they weren’t during our stay.
  
  Barbecue on the porch (great porch!!!) is not usable!!! We fixed it for our use. It’s absolutely necessary to be changed with new!
  Conclusion: great location, great place for vacation! We would go again!

Needs a few light bulbs replaced/updated, a few more bath towels would also be nice for longer stays and for my lower than average car, the driveway was a challenge but we managed.   The cottage was nice and roomy, very attractive, and was a nice place to relax after a busy day. However, the lighting leaves a lot to be desired. The fixtures over the fireplace did not work, nor did the light in the closet. The closet was very dark, as was the area just outside it. A light bulb was burned out in the bathroom, although it was replaced quickly. The chandelier in the living area was missing a shade and one bulb was burned out. There needs to be lighting under the cabinets in the kitchen. Consequently, the cabin was poorly lit.
  The kitchen had ample pots and pans, the toaster and coffee maker worked. However, there were no cooking forks and only one serving spoon. The silverware had only 2 dinner forks, 2 salad forks, 3 teaspoons, 2 soup spoons, and 3 knives. There were adequate dishes to eat on.
  We were given only one hand towel for the bathroom and no bathmat for our first day. We had enough washcloths and towels, however. The second day we were given more towels and washcloths and a bathmat, but still no handtowels. WE were also given another kitchen wash cloth and towel, which was good, considering we prepared two meals a day there and the towels had not had time to dry between meals. Thankfully, I brought along some of my own kitchen towels.
  The couple taking care of the maintenance on the property were very nice, and tried to fix the light fixtures in our cottage, but it was the weekend, and I'm not sure they could get the parts then.
  The mini blinds on all the windows need to be replaced. The are bent, and all but three of them are missing the wands.
  
  
  The cottage is next to a road that was heavily traveled late in the afternoon, so tended to be noisy at that time. Other than that, it was very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed watching the ducks waddle around the cottages and swimming in the little pond.

  My wife and I where pleasently surprised when we opened the door to our cabin. It was much better than what we thought it would be. Nice hot tub, big separate bathroom, big porch, very clean cabin. Enjoyed swinging on the porch with my wife as we watched the ducks in the pond below us. Cabin is 1 min off the main road tucked away on side of mountain. Could not hear the road when we were on the porch. Very quiet, could hear ducks quack while swinging on porch. Awesome, will stay again.
